The 2008 Arapahoe Band Concerto Competition

Rules for the Recording Entries

Due September 24th

  1. The applicant must be a band student enrolled at Arapahoe High School, or a middle school band student who will be joining the Arapahoe Band.
  2. The performance will consist of a technical movement of a concerto with piano accompaniment.
  3. Pianists and percussionists do not need to provide piano accompaniment, unless they would like to be considered as a senior featured soloist.
  4. Senior featured soloist applicants must confirm the published band accompanied work is available for their selected piece.
  1. The entry fee of $30 and an original score must accompany the application and recording.  This is due to the Arapahoe High School Band Office by September 24th.
  2. The Arapahoe Band Instructional Staff will listen to the recordings and select up to the top 3 performances in each category (WW, Brass & Percussion).
  3.  CD or cassette tape recordings will be accepted
  4. Up to 9 finalists will be announced on October 22, 2008

 

Rules for the Finalists Who Will Perform

In the AHS Theater on November 17, 2008

  1. Each performer will provide their own piano accompanist.
  2. Pianists and percussionists do not need to provide piano accompaniment, unless they would like to be considered as a senior featured soloist.
  3. All finalists must provide 3 original scores for the judges.
  4. A complete technical movement of a concerto will be performed by each finalist.
  5. Professional musicians will judge the finalists.
  6. All finalists in each division (WW, Brass & Percussion) will be announced at the end of the evening, along with the Grand Prize 1st, 2nd & 3rd place winners.
  7. A maximum of 3 seniors will be selected to perform their concerto movement with the Arapahoe Wind Ensemble at the December, March or May Concerts.
  8. All finalists will receive a professionally recorded CD and DVD of their performance on 11/17/08.
  9. Each finalist will receive a framed certificate award.
  10. The top 3 finalists will receive an engraved medal commemorating the event.
  11. Cash prizes will be:  $100.00 1st Place; $75.00 2nd Place; and $50.00 3rd Place.
  12. Admission tickets for the November 17th Concerto Performance will be $5.00.
