AHS Dixie Dawgs to Perform at Summit Jazz 2008

 

Centennial, Colorado—The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs from Arapahoe High School have been invited to perform at the annual Summit Jazz Festival on September 28, 2008.  Arapahoe’s combo is the only high school youth band performing at the 2008 festival.  Summit Jazz 2008 takes place from September 26th  through September 28th, and is located at the Four Points by Sheraton Denver Southeast, (6363 East Hampden Ave.).  Featured professional bands include:  The Jim Cullum Jazz Band from San Antonio, Texas; Hot Antic Jazz Band from Nimes, France; New Black Eagle Jazz Band from Boston, Massachusetts; The Alan Frederickson Jazz Ensemble from Denver, Colorado; the Jazz Cookers from Centennial, Colorado; and the Summit Jazz All Stars (John Cocuzzi, Anat Cohen, Jerry Krahn, Paul Keller and Joe Ascione).

 

The Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs will perform on Sunday, September 28th starting at 10:00 a.m.  Professional sets will continue through the afternoon until 5:15 p.m.  The Dixie Dawgs have performed in the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee seven times and have won the prestigious Downbeat National Magazine’s Outstanding Jazz Performance Award in 2003, 2006 and 2007.

 

Members of the Dry Creek Dixie Dawgs include:  Madison Munn (clarinet), Alyssa Barton (tenor sax), Riley Sinn (cornet), Alex James (trombone), Nicole Jensen (banjo), Wes Leffingwell (piano), Andrew Ryan (bass), and Kevin Matthews (drums).
